Work by Faculty Glenn Wilcox and Anca Trandafirescu Published in New Book on Process

"PROCESS strives to create a more valuable design methodology in the fields of architecture, interior, urban, landscape and installation. Featuring more than 130 projects from 46 design teams in a case of seven soft-cover volumes and with a total of 960 full-color pages, this immense publication sets a standard for design success – the true measurement of an architect’s achievement is the amount of time put into the design process; and not just in one project, but across an entire career. With its sheer variety of case studies and concepts, it seeks to spark creativity and present new, crucial challenges for developing and established designers."

This new book, edited by Ulf Mejergren and Anders Berensson with Pyo Miyoung and published by Damdi, includes an article by Assistant Professors Glenn Wilcox and Anca Trandafirescu, where they discusses their design process and the use of scripting, parametrics, and fabrication technologies in relation to the rubric of variability and non-standard means of production.

The book also features four of their most recent projects; "LUMANOTUS," "CUTWORK: Robotic Hotwire Foam Cutting for Producing Variable Pre-Cast Building Units," "AVA Lights," and "Tetra | N."

The projects range from a large scale inflatable installation to small scale lighting and each feature the use of some advanced technology in design and production. "LUMANOTUS" was partially funded by support from the Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning. "CUTWORK" was funded by a grant from the Office of the Vice President of Research at the University of Michigan.

Process can be purchased online.
